Seachtain ghalánta i dTír Chonaill / A Lovely Week in Donegal

A chairde, Phill muid ó Thír Chonaill inné, i ndiaidh seachtain iontach ansin. D’fhan muid i dteach carad dár gcuid, mar is gnáth, in aice leis an Chlochán Liath, agus in éindí le bheith ag léamh don tráchtas, lig muid ár n-eiteogaí ar feadh tamaill in aice leis an fharraige dhrithleach agus faoin spéir ghorm (den chuid is mó!). Seo cúpla pictiúr daoibh den áit ghalánta sin:

Agus bhí an seans againn dul go Fanad agus Tuaisceart an Chontae an uair seo, fosta! Lá breá, álainn a bhí ann i bhFanad agus b’aoibhinn  linn an ceantar sin. Cúpla pictiúr eile:

Ach tá muid ag teacht ar ais mar dhaoine cáiliúla! 🙂 Magadh atá mé, ach bhí seachtain shuimiúil againn agus tharla neart rudaí a raibh sceitimíní orainn fá dtaobh de. Ní amháin gur sheinn muid ceol ag an Chabaret Craiceáilte, a bhí ar siúl Dé Sathairn seo caite ag Tigh Hiúdaí Bhig ar an  Bhun Bheag i nGaoth Dobhair, ach rinne muid agallamh ar an raidio lenár laoch craolta, Rónán Mac Aodh Bhuí Dé Máirt, an 30ú de mhí Aibreáin! Bhí an Cabaret go breá agus bhain muid an-sult as an oíche agus as an cheol (ag na ceoltóirí eile), cé go raibh sé dubh le daoine agus bhí sé rud beag róghlórach dúinn féin. Bhí an-chraic san áit agus ba léir é go raibh daoine ag baint suilt as an oíche! Agus bhí muid iontach neirbhíseach fán agallamh le Rónán, ach sa deireadh sílim gur éirigh go maith linn agus bhain muid sult as an taithí. Sheinn muid cúpla port ar an chlár agus phlé muid na rudaí a bhí muid a dhéanamh, agus ár gcúlra maidir leis an Ghaeilge. Thig libh a bheith ag éisteacht leis an phodchraoladh anseo, sílim, má tá suim agaibh: http://www.rte.ie/rnag/ronan-beo-3/programmes/2013/0430/389426-rnn-beo3-d-mirt-30-aibren-2013/?clipid=1074061

Sin é anois… ar ais go dtí na leabhair! Tá cara dár gcuid, Lila, ag teacht ar chuairt an tseachtain seo agus tá muid ag súil lena cuairt, leoga. Caithfidh muid a bheith ag léamh ‘s ag ullmhú don tráchtas, agus tá sé beartaithe againn dul ar ais go Dún na nGall ag tús mhí Meithimh, agus beidh mé ag déanamh m’obair pháirce ansin.

Slán go fóill beag!

Amanda

Hello, folks! We’ve returned from Donegal yesterday after spending a delightful week up there. We stayed in our friends house, as usual, near Dungloe, and along with doing some reading and research for our theses, truly had a chance to rest and recuperate from the busy end-of-semester rush by the sparkling sea and beneath a (mostly) blue sky. Here’s a couple of photos of this gorgeous place:

And this trip we also had a chance to go to Fanad and the north of the County, as well! We had a beautiful, lovely day in Fanad and fell in love with that area. Here’s a few more pics:

But we’ve actually come back to Galway as celebrities! 🙂 I’m kidding, but we certainly had an exciting and interesting week. Not only did we play music at the monthly ‘Cabaret Craiceáilte’ that took place Saturday at Tigh Hiúdaí Bhig in Bunbeg, Gweedore, but we also did an interview on the radio with our Irish broadcasting hero, Rónán Mac Aodh Bhuí on Tuesday, April 30th! The Cabaret was great and we really enjoyed the evening and (other musicians’) music, despite the fact that it was really crowded and a bit too noisy for our tastes. Good craic, though, and people were definitely enjoying the evening! And we were REALLY nervous about the interview with Rónán, but in the end I think we came out of it okay and we really enjoyed the experience. We played a couple of tunes on the show and we discussed our background and what we’re doing with Irish at the moment. If you’re interested, you can listen to the show here: http://www.rte.ie/rnag/ronan-beo-3/programmes/2013/0430/389426-rnn-beo3-d-mirt-30-aibren-2013/?clipid=1074061

That’s it for now, back to the books! We’re looking forward to a visit from our friend Lila, from Massachusetts, this week. We will be reading a lot and preparing for work on our theses, and then we plan to head back to Donegal at the beginning of June, where I’ll be doing some field work.

TTFN, Ta Ta For Now!
